“Abahani lock horns with Prime Doleshwar”

Desks report
Star-studded Abahani Limited will lock horns with joint league leader Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in the ninth round games of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) Ground-3 today.Dhanmondi-based team has left three round games of the group phase, each of which are crucial for them as they have to win those three round matches to cruise into the Super Six stage.

Before the eighth round encounter, traditional powerhouse went to the backfoot and was languishing in ninth position following three defeats despite being formed the most balanced team on paper for the 2015-16 season.

Dhanmondi outfit however got back to the winning way with 32-run win over Gazi Group Cricketers in the last match and improved their position.

Now four teams including Gazi Group Cricketers, Abahani Limited, Prime Bank Sporting Club and Brothers Union earned the identical eight points but the Sky-Blues is languishing seventh place just behind the former.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned home after the completion of his IPL campaign yesterday. He of course will give a much-needed boost to Abahani, who badly needs the service of the talismanic allrounder to steady the shaky middle-order and bowling battery.

Abahani Limited like Prime Doleshwar held their pre-match day practice at the National Cricket Academy. Both team coaches shared the same sentiment of winning tomorrow’s high-voltage match.

Of them, Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon said that there will be changes in batting and bowling of the team after coming of Shakib Al Hasan.

“Prime Doleshwar is four points ahead of us. They’re in rhythm but winning the last match will give us confidence. We’re definitely stronger team but we could not execute properly in the ground,” said Khaled Mahmud.

“We played better cricket in the last match, where batting and bowling have been good. Rajat (Bhatia) did batting well. Shakib came from IPL. Both batting and bowling department of the team will be changed after his coming,” Sujon told reporters after their practice session.

“As the match will be played between two big teams I think it will be exciting. Our back has been probed in the wall so we’ll get down in the field for winning. Going into the Super Six is an issue. If we could win by playing our better cricket in the next three matches, then we could be gone in a good position,” he added.

Prime Doleshwar coach Mizanur Rahman Babul said that they will get down in the field for winning the match to be champions.

“Every match is important. Since the beginning of the Players by Choice, we’ve fixed a target of winning championship. Last two years, we formed our team and played in a bid to be champion but we became third in the first year and then runner-up in the second year. For becoming champions we’ve to win each and every match. We’ll play for winning the match and that’s our target,” said Prime Doleshwar coach Mizanur Rahman Babul.
About the match venue, both coach echoed the same string and said that they all are professional. Their work is to play. They will tell their players to just focus on games whatever the grounds are?
