Sports Correspondent: Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team beat Ireland by 8 wickets at the M Chinnaswami Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday. Earlier they lost to Sri Lanka at the same venue by 5 wickets on Thursday.
Winning the toss, the Irish Women were unable to put up any real threat with the bat, as Jahanara and Co were out and out in a dominating form. They were rattled out for just 74 runs.
Bangladesh`s most successful bowler Rumana Ahmed picked up four wickets giving 12 runs.
Chasing an all-too-easy target of 75 runs, Bangladeshi eves sailed to victory in just 12.3 overs, with 8 wickets still intact.
Ayesha Rahman and Sharmin Akhtar added 27 runs in the opening partnership. Though Bangladesh were bothered for some time after two quick departure of Ayesha and Sanjida; Sharmin, accompanied by Jahanara, took her team over the line quite safely.
Besides, Sharmin was top run-scorer for her side, scoring unbeaten 36 runs off 37 balls with the help of five boundaries. Jahanara too was unbeaten on 16 off 9 balls, in which she smashed two fours and a six.
Bangladesh women cricketers will begin their campaign in the tournament proper at the same venue on March 15, when they clash with the hosts and title candidates India.
